The arts

Music, dance and drama are a key part of the school curriculum for all students until Year 10, as part of our commitment to a broad and stimulating learning environment.

In senior school, our students can commit to further study for exams or their own enjoyment and development. They can learn a wide range of instruments here at Gordonstoun, and our young musicians can take part in twice weekly concerts. The music department also hosts larger events throughout the year, the chance to perform developing confidence and creativity.

Gordonstoun is the only school in Scotland where dance is taught as part of the academic curriculum and dance is a popular choice at GCSE. Our students can also show their skills in our annual dance show in front of an appreciative audience.

The Drama Department stages a series of productions throughout the year giving students a chance to either take the stage or work behind the scenes. Recent productions have included Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, the first school production of Green Day’s American Idiot, and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. The Drama Department also visits local schools with touring productions and takes shows to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival as well as on international tours, most recently to New York.

The Ogstoun Studios and Theatre is the hub of all dramatic and dance activities in school. Facilities include a dance studio, several rehearsal spaces and a 200 seat purpose-built theatre.
