Gordonstoun Coronation Celebrations

The Coronation of our former student King Charles III was a very special day for Gordonstoun. We are delighted to share with you this ‘Coronation Collection’ which highlights our celebrations that certainly were 'fit for a King'.

Mini Coronation

We began our weekend celebrating the coronation of King Charles III with a Mini Coronation. Our youngest pupils loved the horse and carriage, flag waving and ceremony, and the experience was a wonderful way for them to learn about such an historic event. King Charles was a keen actor during his time at Gordonstoun, taking lead roles in many school performances, and the enactment was therefore especially fitting.

We invite you to view our Mini Coronation in this special film.

Morning Run & Beach Swim

On the morning of the Coronation, more than 100 teenagers opted to get out of their cosy beds, to take part in a special morning run and beach swim to mark the occasion. Gordonstoun Guardian Jennifer said, “I went for the morning run, it’s not something I would normally do, but because it is a tradition and the King himself would have done it at Gordonstoun, I thought it was good to do it too.”

The BBC included this event in their article covering how Scotland were celebrating the Coronation.

Community Coronation Picnic

On the Sunday we invited the local community, parents, staff and contractors, to a picnic on our stunning South Lawn. Highlights included a Ferris Wheel, a music showcase, drama performances and tours of our grounds. Our grande finale included everyone getting to their feet to for our national anthem, performed on electric guitar from the roof of Gordonstoun House. A suitable end to our Coronation celebrations.
